Gather pictures from last years vbs, find a simple picture maker slide show, I use photoshow. Play that just before your first meeting to get people excited about your meeting. Make sure to do some sort of "give away". Maybe some thing that can be used as decoration in the classroom.
Adding 15-20 mins has worked awesome for us. It's a time to gather back together again at the end. On the ABC day (salvation) our Pastor does the message and gives the children an opportunity to say the "sinners Prayer" and come forward, where we can gather names and phone numbers to contact later. On Friday, I use the time to gather all the individual classes together for pictures and then one big picture. The rest of the days, our pastor does silly fun inspiritational songs (put also teacher
This year we have a new daycare Director. I've already been told by her that her staff has to been in each classroom with the daycare kids at all times. We've never done that. My teachers are all church members and they are never alone with any of the kids. We have 130 kids in our VBS and only about 20% are daycare, so there isn't enough daycare workers to filter in each classroom. Also I've used the daycare teachers as teachers for the younger aged kids. So I'm sort of nervous going to this new daycare director and what the laws are about all this. We except federal assistant for low-income families and have been told that there are limitations on what we can and can't do. I'm just curious if anyone has to deal with this. It would be nice to know what other churches do, before I go to this lady. She's not a church member and doesn't know anything about VBS.
Share with other directors your ideas for planning, promotion, recruiting, follow up, and a ton of other subjects. Let's help everyone's 2008 VBS be the best possible.
